Solid waste handling can be a major cost consideration for an aquaculture facility due to the high volumes of waste produced. The PR Aqua Belt Filter is a gravity sludge thickener that may be used to dramatically reduce the volume of sludge produced. The thickened sludge may then be stored, handled or disposed of economically. The PR Aqua Belt Filter may be used to capture the solids from a PR Aqua Microscreen Rotofilter™ drum filter or from a traditional raceway wet-vacuum system, eliminating the need for settling ponds.

How It Works
|
The PR Aqua Belt Filter features a screen element in the form of a conveyor belt. As flow passes horizontally through the inclined screen, the solids collect on the upstream face of the belt while clarified water passes to the filter outlet. The sludge is gently are lifted out of the water as the belt moves upwards, over the roller, and past the belt scraper. Thickened sludge is scraped from the belt into a receiving hopper from which it may be pumped with a progressive cavity pump or further dewatered with a screw press (optional). A pressurized water backwash system is then used to rinse the screen belt after sludge removal. Wash water is collected separately and may be re-introduced to feed water, combined with the sludge, or treated separately.
Polymers are often necessary for optimum sludge thickening. PR Aqua can provide custom polymer mixing systems to compliment your belt filter and integrate with your waste management strategy.
